The Writing's on the Wall

Like it or hate it, graffiti does grab one's attention. Often, the wall it's splashed on makes a wonderfully interesting, richly-textured background to the paint splashes--sometimes the surface is even more visually engaging than the graffiti itself.

I was really grabbed by the varied surfaces and colours on this wall in Montreal.  In fitting with this holiday weekend, one could even look at it as a giant, rectangular-shaped, decorated Easter egg!  (oh, pity the poor chicken that produces rectangular eggs! Or, as I used to believe, the Easter bunny who lays the eggs.)

Another reason to post this wall now is Bonnie's prompt this weekend to produce a piece of photo art with the theme "Graffiti."  I didn't do much to alter the original photo: boosted the levels and colour intensity a little, added a touch of poster-edges, and snuck in my own logo (do you see it?  LCi).

Please don't hesitate to search out some more writing on the virtual gallery walls over at Bonnies'Pixel Dust Photo Art.

Happy hunting!

  1. Lynne--I'd love to go around Montreal with you, or any city for that matter. We'd be photographing a lot of the same things, I think. Love the Easter-egg purple!!! And by the way, do you mean the bunny doesn't lay eggs???

    1. Oh, it would be fun to go out snapping pix with someone of the same "bent". I fear I do try the patience of friends I'm out exploring with, needing to stop to get pictures of building cracks and rust and such. As for the Easter Bunny, he used to lay all the eggs but now he gets them wholesale from China.

    1. I've lived in both cities and both have much to offer, but my preference would be Montreal--more character! Glad you like the graffiti I found. Thanks for visiting.

  5. Such a great graffiti wall, Lynne. They certainly can be found aplenty in Montreal! Your circumspect editing really makes it pop ... in a realistic way.

  6. Rectangular eggs? The chicken would have a few fowl words, I'm sure. ;)

I was visually fooled for a moment, thinking that the visible brickwork was a chimney on the side of the building.. but of course the air conditioner dispelled that notion. I love how you added your initial to the graffiti. Nicely done.

    1. Hilary--I didn't recognize you for a minute--you've hidden your lovely face. But as soon as I got to that "fowl" remark of yours, I immediately knew who it was! Left me cackling.

    1. Thanks, Ida. That was really what drew me to the building in the first place so I'm glad you share my fascination with the colour and texture. The graffiti was the cherry on the sundae.
