Sea, Sand, & Supper

Boat and gull heading in for supper.

Fishing boats heading out to catch supper.

A family heading home for supper.

Can you tell my head was wrapped around thoughts of supper at this time? It was to be our long-awaited annual feed of fried seafood at the beach just prior to C's departure for Montreal. Alas, it was not to be. After placing our order and waiting for an hour for our number to be called, C finally gave up and begged Pierre to drive her to the airport so she wouldn't miss her flight. I gave her a quick hug goodbye and watched them disappear into the setting sun as I sat and waited...and waited...for the food to be ready. Sitting there, I had time to ponder the fact that my bag was in the trunk of the car and all I had with me was my camera, the ticket for supper, and two half-empty (or were they half full?) cans of beer. Oh well, what else could a girl possibly need?
P.S. 15 minutes after C & P left, our food was ready. I ate my share and watched the darkness begin to fall, trying not to panic with thoughts of C missing her flight, Pierre being in a highway crash, me being stranded. Fifty minutes after having left, P arrived back to rescue me and his share of supper. C caught her flight with time to spare. We have some leftover clams in the fridge today, if anyone's hungry...

  1. I always say, "All's well that ends well!" However, what passes for in-flight food now ... Amazing how little time it took P. to make the round trip, airports being what they are. You two will have to do it up right this weekend! We have plans to go to the Jersey shore next week--hope the weather holds up! LOVE xxox

  2. Ah! Fried clams!! Had my fix yesterday at 45th Parallel on Deer Island, the only place that beats the quality of Fred's as I remember it. Does Fred's still exist? I have not been to Cap Pele for so long.

  3. Brilliant photography!
Once worked as a fisherman in Spain and went out in the morning to get the fish, being sold afterwards to the restaurants and hotels.
Ordered once a meal as well for a student, while having a break during her exam, came also late, but she received the diploma.
Sometimes lifes can't be fully understood, but it surely worth to say yes to.
    Please have a nice Tuesday.

  4. Hi Margaret, Yes it all came out in the wash (have you heard that old expression?). We'd been wining and dining very well for the whole of C's visit anyway and she only had an hour flight.

I look forward to seeing photos of the Jersey shore! Fingers crossed for sunny days.

  5. Dear Fart: Yes, Fred's still exists! At least the sign does. We used to like to go to Leo's sometimes, too. Anyway, the fried seafood annual chow down has been accomplished for the year. Next up (pardon the expression)--lobstah!

  6. Hi Robert: You have certainly had a lot of different adventures in your life! My husband worked on a small fishing boat one summer, catching mackerel and I went out one night as well. I stayed out of the way when the hauled in the nets.

That must have been pretty tense waiting for food while taking a break during an exam! I think I would have had a nervous breakdown. But as Margaret pointed out in her comment, "All's well that ends well."

Thank you for your kind comment about my photos.

I hope you're enjoying your new abode and relishing what's left of summer!

  7. Aw you just don't ever clam up, do ya... just blog-blog-blogging away... (and don't stop, you're too much fun...)

So jeez, a few clams is all that's left ? I was hoping you might have saved me half a lobster at least, and some Riesling to wash it down with... well, I'll settle for one of those brownies for dessert at least, if there are any of those left... they looked divine... :-D

  8. Ya want lobster, Owen? Come on over to our house--we like to have visitors as an excuse to get lobster. Unless it's just so ridiculously cheap that it would be stupid not to buy some for supper just for our own lonesome selves. And there aint never no-how gonna be any leftover brownie from Harvey Hall! But I'll make a batch of Nanaimo Bars... (excuse me, but you're drooling on your keyboard!) ;-D

  9. Ahh drat, hate it when the drool gets in between the keys... but, like a good hitchhiker, I have my towel handy ! ;-D

  11. LOL! I was wondering about those captions! My favorite is the family heading home (for supper!)... Something about the composition and B+W combined make it very contemplative.
I'm with Margaret here, and glad that all ended well for you...

PS -- Not even fresh clams appeal to me! Of course, how would I know? I've never tried them...
Good to be back with friends like you!

  15. Hi Lynne! I love your b&w photography!!! How cool to have a beachy supper! Not a clam-fan, but I'll take mussels any day.

  16. Hi Rain: Don't forget to put on your mussel shirt before partaking! ;-D

  17. Clever clever!!! I guess I'd be right at home wearing my 'mussel shirt' if they were playing Eye of the Tiger, lol!

  18. I think I found the answer to who really scoffed (I presume that means "stole" in NZ slang) the wine, and it wasn't the Saj, because by the time the wine disappeared, her level of fine motor coordination was far to impaired to have managed such a complex cognitive task requiring both thinking and acting... no, the true culprits can be found here on the post from August 1st :

    http://thisirishphotograph.blogspot.com/

(try not to look at the post from August 2nd as you go to the post below, it is not very pretty) As you can see the culprits are already behind bars, where they belong. So Amanda, you can breathe easy with a clear conscience... we know you didn't do it, even if you imagined you had ! :-D

  19. I should have known it, Owen! Just when one is lulled into a false sense of security (by imbibing 45 ounces of Salty Dog in one go) is the time raccoons attack.

A word of advice--stand clear when Amanda heaves that sigh of relief or you may become instantaneously inebriated from the alcohol fumes. Which is okay unless you have to drive, or kayak, anywhere.

And BTW--what did you mean in your comment box that ALMOST all the pictures from Amanda's get-together have been destroyed?!

  20. Those images are exquisite!

Your supper would be most welcome here, your description made me very hungry. ;-)
