I love herons, too! They have a special meaning for me as there was one standing on a rock on the beach where I went to find some solace on the day of my father's funeral several years ago. Whenever I see one, I try to get a picture, but am usually not as lucky as with this splendid specimen in the Halifax gardens. I guess he was more used to people.
One of my favourite birds and subjects as you might have known by my header. ;) I read what you said about seeing the heron on the day of your father's funeral. I had a similar experiences with gulls on the day of my own dad's funeral.
OK I'm standing by but don't be too long. I'm kinda shakey on one leg.
