I like it when they arch the neck in that classic s-curve,
or maybe it's more like a cedilla hanging off a French "c."
Here, that snaky neck is more elongated,
but still pleasingly curvy...
stretching a little further, but still graceful, don't you think?
(reminds me of my old ballet teacher's admonitions to stretch our necks long)
The almost perpendicular pose is not without appeal.
Front on doesn't really capture a heron's best features,
but I thought the reflection made the picture interesting.
Oh, now he's got his feathers ruffled, in a huff due to the previous less-than-flattering photo.
Well! he's giving us the bum's rush
and mooning us at the same time!
and mooning us at the same time!
Never mind, he only flew to the other side of the pond where I was able to get a few more, more flattering shots of him to feather my blog with.
I do hope, my fine feathered friends, that you will come flocking back to see them in a few days' time.
I know it's a Heron, but it appears as if it is "Craning" its neck in a couple of those shots :) That last shot is priceless... Cheers! :)
ReplyDelete"Craning its neck"! Ha ha! Wish I'd thought of that!.
DeleteLove the way the feathers spread out in a fan....
ReplyDeleteAren't they beautifully arranged? What a magnificent fan they's make. Would go a long way to keeping one cool if not too heavy to manipulate. But I suppose it would be politically incorrect to use a bird's wing as a fan these days.
DeleteWhat a poseur! You captured it beautifully, Lynne. A truly remarkable neck.
ReplyDeleteWhy oh why have I stopped getting your blog notices???? You've changed your blog title--must we re-subscribe??? I am doing it now!
A poseur, absolutely! You have hit on the mot juste!
DeleteI didn't change the address of this blog, only dropped Décolleté from the title. Maybe you don't get notifications because there haven't been any postings for a long time. Hope it's all resolved for you now.
And who was talking about being coo coo ??? Lovely series...
ReplyDeleteTakes one to know one,n'est-ce pas? Thanks for flying by and dropping a comment.

Such beautiful captures of this handsome garçon. I always see herons as males for some reason.. and besides, you inspired me to play with my cidilla. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the way you know your way around your French keyboard and use that cedilla as a lasso! I always see herons as males, too. Perhaps because they're so obviously self-involved?
DeleteAh....very balletic, until it drops the pose.Great find - around here they are quite elusive birds not keen on sticking around to be photographed.
ReplyDeleteLove the last one!
Ruby
Yes, they are generally balletic looking, right down to pointing their toes while in flight...and they are generally flighty about getting their pictures taken, yes. Amusing to catch one looking rather graceless for a change. Glad you like it.
DeleteGorgeous light in the shits as well as that lovely heron...
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I'm thinking there must be a typo buried in your comment? I don't think I caught any evidence of the bird's excrement in the shot...although I haven't zoomed in on the last bum's rush one.... "Light in the shits"... you say... much to ponder there, Catherine!

Nice set of pictures - even if one of them is a bit graceless!!
ReplyDeleteI always feel like I have seen "something" when I see a heron.
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Hey, thanks for your visit, Stewart! Nice to see a new face in these parts. I share your feeling about it being a sort of blessing to espy a heron...especially at such close range.
DeleteCheers to you as well!
