Ho Ho

Recently, on a rainy, hailing, sunny day in Vancouver's Chinatown, I was tickled to see that the old Ho Ho Restaurant was still in business.  I used to like eating there as a kid with my parents, mostly because of the jolly name, I think.

This evening, back in my Maritimes abode,  I got distracted toying with this picture, not sure why.

Sometimes I'm just a bit of a noodle head, I guess.

Not unlike this fellow.

  2. That's hilarious. Did you realize the placement of the noodle bowl when you took the shot?

  3. Way too much fun! Am literally laughing out loud at "Noodle Head." Yes, I'm curious too. Did you see this in your frame - noodle head that is? And what *are* they looking at... It's wonderful to know someone who looks at life with so much fun! ;) It's catching...

  4. jann,
Oh good, it's a cartoon effect. Yes, exactly what I was after. Of course I did it on purpose...sort of...after hours of goofing around. I think the big green thing is a garbage can. Or I guess on a city street it would be called a refuse bin.

  5. Hilary,
The placement of the noodle bowl was just as deliberate as the cartoon effect I applied to the original photo (ie. completely occidental...I mean, accidental).

  6. Mystic Meandering,
So the subliminal ho-ho message worked and got you laughing out loud. Excellent! Being a noodle head comes quite naturally to me, but creating a noodle head inside my picture frame was just a happy happenstance. The big green thing is, I believe, nothing more prosaic than a garbage can. Don't remember them looking like that, but who pays attention to these things when there are noodle heads to capture!

  7. Ah, is Ho Ho the Oriental equivalent of lol?

This restaurant in the mid 60's was my first introduction to tofu then more prosaically named "bean curd".

  8. Love you HO HO Noodle post. Do you take special requests? I'd love to see (and read) a post about the HA HA Cemetery (Harvey NB)!

  9. DCW,
We all know what curd rhymes with! My first taste of the stuff was at the Red Door, down some back alley off Pender St., back when I was a student at SFU. The menu was all in Chinese so we had no idea what we were ordering. I feared I might be eating something akin to human flesh.

  11. haha!
That's a lovely picture. My niece and nephew lived in the US and used to like to eat something called "Ho Ho"s and also something called "Yum Yum"s I always remember them clamouring for Yumyums and hohos!

  12. Can't wait for Christmas to come. Some times me and my son listen to Christmas songs even during summer ;) Can't remember though when last I enjoyed Food from China. Must be a decade or even longer. Please have a good Wednesday.

  13. Very funny shot of the noodle head, great capture. Many years ago I used to go to the ON ON with UBC chums for dinner before a night of studying, brings back memories of long ago.

  14. Jenny Woolf,
It's enough to make want to get one's ya-yas out! There was another popular confection (and I use the term loosely)called ding-dongs that were popular when I was a kid. What's in a name, eh?

  15. Robert,
I wonder if you haven't eaten Chinese food because there aren't any such restaurants in Athens (one would hope there wouldn't be) or if there are, you've chosen not to try them (also a good idea?) Like you and your son, my father-in-law likes to start singing Christmas carols in the summer, too! Does it help you to cool off??

  16. Gilllan Olson,
I can't say I recall the On On. Was it anywhere near the On Off?
