Ladies Who Lunch

Doesn't this seem a lovely place for lunch? It's a discreet public garden situated almost immediately beside the cinema where my mother and I went to see a movie matinee yesterday. As the show started at 1 and we had to catch a noon bus to be there in time, we decided to pack some sandwiches and eat them in the gardens while we waited for the box office to open. So serene and green! There were a few others sitting on park benches, quietly munching or sipping.

I'm sure you'd never guess which film we went to see, at my mother's suggestion. What sort of movie do you think might appeal to an 80-year old woman? Here's a hint: it has nothing to do with Keats.

Here's another clue:

  1. No, it wasn't Trailer Park Boys, that's for sure.

  2. If my mother had suggested "Trailer Park Boys" I would have taken it as a sign of Dementia! Choosing "Whip It!" however, indicates a certain youthful spirit of rebellion, fun, and open-mindedness.

  3. Was it Roller Blade Warriors: Taken by Force, a sci fi movie?! Actually, I bet it was pretty good! You two are cool! I still am waiting to see the Keats movie (Bright Star). I keep promising myself to go and then talk myself out of it. Lynne, you would love it! Filmed just above the Spanish Steps in Rome! omg, you've created that building!
I love the Japanese garden--so gorgeous! Did you get the gelato for dessert? Affettuosa, Margherita

  4. Hmmm, looks like they were re-playing the "The Attack Ack Ack of the Roller Derby Zombie Queens", that great horror classic from the early 70's... Just the thing for 80 year olds... she sounds like a pretty spunky little thing... just like her daughter...

And that ice cream place looks pretty good too...

  5. Salve, Margherita! I have neither been to see the Keats flick nor consumed gelato as yet! But I still have 3 weeks ahead of me here. Getting to the movie will be a long day's journey into night as it will involve several bus transfers. I hope the gelato place doesn't close for the season before I make it back there. OMG! The pressure is on.

BTW--the movie we saw is Drew Barrymore's directorial debut with "Whip It!" Predictable, but charming. Ellen Page is cute and Canadian (she was in "Juno"--did you see that?)

    ciao ciao! xo

  7. Your mum has a fair bit of get up and go eh? Good for her beats sitting in the 'departure lounge!

  8. Your Mama sounds pretty cool-like her daughter.
You know what they say: Show me the mother and I'll show you the daughter.

  9. Hi Saj! I don't know how I missed your comment here! Glad I skated back this way and found it. My mum does, indeed, still have a good deal of get up and go...especially when she's got a pushy daughter around to egg her on. Truth to tell, she does enjoy trotting off to the casino from time to time on her own!

  10. Salut, Jacqueline! Lovely to have a wink from you. You know, Pierre did make sure to check out my mother when we first met to see what he might be in for. She and I are both still "young for our ages." I always wonder if that means incredibly immature.

I hope your shoulder is getting better.

  11. Immature is good.
Maturity is for cowards and lonely tight asses.
