Beached

We went to the beach and I plunked myself down in the sand and took a good look about me to see what I could see...Someone was having a nap while a seagull snuck up on him...

a fishing boat bobbed on the horizon...

a small white blob, perhaps named Bob, ventured out into the water while a seagull amused himself by making footprints in the sand (see them?)...

and then Fifi and Florence arrived for an evening frolic at the shore, anxious to get out there in the water where Bruno was already chasing a stick.

  1. I haven't seen B&W beach pictures in awhile. I like the sand shadows in the last one.

  2. Lovely photos! Great minds think alike, I have just done some B & W beach pix, but they don't look as "warm" as yours, probably due to the different season methinks. That doesn't stop me from sampling cider tho', had a nice Phoenix Cider last night to warm the cockles of m'heart.

  3. Helloo, Cosmic Fart! Lovely to see you at the beach. I finally twigged to the fact that my digital has a b&w option. Soon I'll be posting the colour beach pix and we can compare and contrast, preferably while sipping a little something.

  4. So Saj, you're having hot mulled cider while I'm having chilled. You're at the winter beach while I'm at the summer one. And we're both taking b&w pix seaside. Same wavelength, different hemispheres.

BTW--my daughter lived with a family in Gore while she went to school in NZ. She said you'd know where it is.

  5. Oh Gore! Yes, I know exactly where it is. I go there a lot with work, plus my brother lives in Invercargill (she will know where that is) so you cand rive thru Gore to get to Invers. I bet she won't want to be there in winter! Plus they talk funny down there, roll their "r's" - its lovely!

  6. Hi Lynne

I love the greys of your beach prints but it does make it look cold and I imagine it isn't really.
Is the sand grey or golden?

    Happy days

  7. Hey Saj: Yeah, C did experience winter there--but it was nothing to her, being from eastern Canada where we do real winters. (I'm from Vancouver and am wimpy & resentful about these ridiculous winters out here). It's funny she got situated in Gore because it seems a place not unlike the area we live here in New Brunswick. Anwyay, she was with a great family and still stays in touch with the mum. I'll have to ask C if they rolled their r's! I think she frequently went to Invercargill. She's out visiting friends just now but I'll quiz her some more when she gets back.

  8. Hi Delwyn: It was a lovely hot day at the beach, with a refreshing breeze. The water was a bit cold, apparently, as we haven't had enough hot days this summer to warm it up. The sand is a goldy colour. I have lots of colour pix that I'll be posting later so you'll get a more realistic idea. There are lovely beaches here but we have to drive about an hour to get to any of them so don't go as often as we'd like.

    Lovely to see you here!

  9. Was it the trip back to early black & white work just a few posts down that got you thinking in b&w mode again ? B&W rocks, even if the rocks in question have been worn down to sand over the millenia... Those seagulls look vaguely dangerous... The water is not very deep, or are those people and dog walking on the water ???

    enjoy your cider !

Great photos Lynne! I love how the sand looks in black and white! Did you ever see the show Arrested Development? Your comment about Bob the small white blob made me think of an episode where Scott Baio played a lawyer named Bob Loblaw. Say it, then say it again, lol!

  11. Owen, perhaps it is being so frequently exposed to your b & w's that inspired me to shed my colours.

Seagulls are not generally known for their shyness but at least these fellows were not panhandling as they do in larger urban coastal centres.

There is something here on the Atlantic coast known as the "tide." In these photos, it was fairly far out, hence the appearance of people walking on water. Although, they may have been True Believers or wearing water wing-tip foot wear; not sure.

  12. Rain: I caught random episodes of Arrested Development and loved every one! It was nuts. What a great lawyer name. LOL! Paul Simon sang that "everything looks worse in black and white" but I'm not so sure!

MadLynne...I heard whispers of a movie in the making...I never watched the show when it was on the networks, only on CBC reruns, and boy did I miss out...what comedy! I'm such a fan of every actor in that show! I don't think Paul Simon is always right, after all he was "feelin' groovy" for most of his life, lol!

  14. Good morning,
eventhough it's hard to show sunny days without colour, you made a perfect job explaining life and what it's about in black&white. Very impressive photography.

  15. Rain, I heard rumours of a movie in the woiks, too. I think the TV series would be a good thing to rent in the dead of winter.

  16. Hi Robert, Good to see you again!Soon I'll show the colour version of this outing and that will prove what a sunny day it really was. A rare thing around here this summer.

  17. I like the picture with the gull in black and white! and Fifi and Florence! how cute! and the contrast of the white billowy clouds against the grainy, grayish sand. I do feel you have a gift for photography, Lynne. Keep it up! LOVE xxox

  18. Thanks Margaret. I take pictures quite obsessively I guess but more just to capture a moment. Point, click, and play with in Photoshop is my approach. I'm glad that others enjoy them.
