Bagshead Revisited

A conceptual crafts display in Central Park with anonymous vendors
(I didn't buy anything)

  1. How strange... big lollipops ? Is this something Christi threw together ? Funny, I just photographed a wrapped street sign the other day... will have to post it for you... but not tonight, just did two long posts... am pooped... after running around large stretches of northern France today... Will be curious to hear what the real story is here... given there wasn't anything to buy. :-)

  2. Ah, but why tell the real story, Owen, when the imaginary is so much more intriguing! It's not that there wasn't anything to buy--it was conceptual ware (similar to vapour ware--opposite to hardware), so there was plenty to buy! It was just all so "spendiferous" that I couldn't afford any thing!

BTW--Did you see that Amanda and I were talking about you in the post below? Were your ears burning?

  3. Oh dear, I did just go look at below comments, there is naughtiness in the air... somehow happens when the Saj is in the neighbourhood... don't know why that is, I'm sure she is a perfectly respectable upright married mother figure for her children whom one would never suspect of the slightest racy inclinations...

As for me, well, I am not called a Toad for nothing, as much as I'm trying to clean up my act, I just keep backslidin'.... and backslid I did just now, over at the comment box at Saj's place... with another tasteless barroom joke...

Anyway, I guess I'll stick with the Christi hypothesis... not sure I want one of these in my living room though...

  4. Owen, you completely do not understand the concept! The bags on sticks are not the wares. The wares are displayed on the tables. They are imaginary wares. It is pretend shopping. It is an attempt on the part of NYC to combat these hard economic times by still allowing citizens at least the illusion of shopping. It's perfectly fine if you're lacking in cash, but not if you're lacking in imagination.

  5. ...and still you might have left with much. Over here plastic bags are for free and people use them for every small item they buy.
Maybe time to think what one needs to put into a bag,as those beautiful trees provide oxygen just for free. Inventing life time and again, nothing that could be put into a bag.

  6. I reckon those bags may just come alive at night...and stalk shoppers! And they would secretly stash humans in their bags and take them home exclaiming "Look what I got!"
I will go back and leave the naughty joke at your other comment box because I am such a fine citizen it wouldn't do my children any good to find out that I'm not really!

  7. Hi Robert: The food stores here have begun to charge for plastic bags. They also promote canvas or other durable bags that they sell cheaply & encourage shoppers to use and reuse and will even replace them free when they wear out. I think if we filled up a bag with air it would be a balloon. There is a great difference between carrying a bag and carrying baggage. Baggage is that old stuff we carry around with us needlessly for years, mulling over and sifting through and sniffing at. It weighs us down. It would be good if we could put it all into an imaginary balloon bag and watch it float off into the sky.

  8. Saj! Suspenders AND skullduggery! How sublime. I'll have three bags full please! (meet you at the post below)

I love the image of those "shopping bags" exclaiming over their human purchases. Too funny!

Oh Lynne...you didn't buy anything huh? Is it a Canadian thing, our sense of humour? :)

  10. It could be. I don't think anybody gets it but us!

  11. As mentioned in the very first comment at the top here... just got around to posting a photo for you... and now I can see it too, the tables here stretching away into the distance are heaped with every treasure imaginable...
