The Bus Stops Here

This is a cross-over post from my art blog because these days I'm blurring the lines between photos and art (not that photography is not an art form, just that I am not a photographer as such). And also because I spent a lot of time (about five hours) making this picture!

One thing I really enjoy doing is "sneaking" pictures from a bus window. In my little village in the maritimes, we don't have a bus service so I take full advantage of the bus rides I take when visiting Vancouver.

If you'd like to see another version of this picture, and learn a little bit more about how it was made, jump over to my art blog .

Can you tell I'm dreaming of getting a smart phone or tablet so I can snap quickie shots with them and zap them with cool apps?! Instant gratification instead of straining my eyes with hours of Photoshopping ( but no no--Mama don't take my Photoshop away!)  And how about Instagram? Is it the photographers' bane?  I long to be able to post Instagrams.  This is as close as I can get...5 hours worth of "instant"! Oy vey!

  1. I think it looks wonderful. I have no idea about Instagram .. mostly because I have a crappy camera on my Android. But I do know about Photoshop and to me, that's true art. You're building an image with layers and a true understanding of what each tool does. You did a fine job.

    1. Thanks, Hilary! I love that you say I'm "building an image." That hits the nail right on the head (a little builder's jargon there). Still learning how to use several of those tools buried deep in the Photoshop toolbox, but certainly enjoying the challenge, as well as the guarantee that I won't accidentally saw off one of my digits in the process of using any of them.

  2. The subject in your photograph has been looking at herself being photoshopped for 5 hours on her smart phone, and missed her bus an undisclosed amount of times: the dangers of smart phones on smart people.

    1. Haha! And at the end of the day, she text-messaged me to ask if I could make her look ten pounds thinner!
      :-D

  4. If this picture were a sentence, it would end with a question mark. I like it.

    1. Hmmm...
If you can't always leave 'em laughing, at least leave 'em scratching their heads?
I'm very glad you like it, DCW.
