Moody Moment

End of day, and the moment is wrapped in a golden glow

The sky becomes a dramatic background
for sun-glazed branches

and even an abandoned house, bereft of love, feels the warmth of the sun's brief kiss.

I had to grab my camera this evening and lean out my studio window to capture the brilliance of the moment.
Snow is in the forecast for the morning so it's best to savour the sun while one can.

  1. Am do glad you did "capture the brilliance of the moment." Wow! Kind of like the beauty before the storm.... I also love the play of shadow on the house... I do hope that Spring arrives for you soon!

    1. I suppose spring has arrived here in some form in that most of the fields, yellow and soggy though they be, are visible now. Hopefully tomorrow's snow will neither be overly abundant nor last long. Another sign is the cry of Canada geese returning to nest in the fields. Hopeful signs...?

  2. Absolutely stunning golden hour shot, Lynne. And I cannot believe all you had to do was lean out your window! Love those two dark eyes of the deserted house. (Love all deserted houses.) Fantastico!!!

    1. That amazing sun blaze against a dark sky happens from time to time and always has us running to the windows to admire it. For once I happened to have my camera at hand. Imagine what I could do if I had a "real" camera. Nah, I'd never get the settings figured out in time to get the shot.

  3. ah, the golden pouring upon snow!!! - the second one looks like an illustration from a fairy-tale book, so gorgeous!

    1. Oh, a fairy tale house! I hadn't thought of that before. I know that a family of raccoons used to live there. Maybe they were actually a coven of witches disguised as those little furry bandits; or maybe a royal family cursed to dwell in darkness for having crossed an evil sorceress in some way...awaiting the arrival of their long-lost daughter to come and find them and break the spell...

    1. The light bathed the world in glory! I had no choice but to try and capture it. Glad you like the results. Weekend pretty good so far...hope yours is/will be/has been as well.

  5. The sort of light that turns winter landscapes into fairytale scenes!

    1. Yes, you and Roxana (see comment above) are on the same page with the fairy tale impression, which truly hadn't occurred to me. The magic light that can turn chaff into gold and lingering snow into a glaze of enchantment.

  6. A freeze dried moment capturing the essence of the feeling. While running yesterday morning I was treated to a fly-past of two formations of geese one of adozen, the other about 30.

    1. So that's where all the geese have disappeared to! Last time I passed their nesting field, there were only 2 left! Must have been some big reunion party happening up your way, I guess. "Goosey Goosey gander, whither dost thou wander?" Freddytown, apparently!

I'm glad you feel I captured the essence of the moment: that's what I was aiming for.

  7. I'm a big fan of a grey sky, photographically speaking.

  8. I know that's not your favourite building but you could easily have me convinced that it is. Stunning shots at the best time of day.

    1. Not my favourite building in that I am part owner of it and I find that rather problematic in many ways. I have quite a few pix of it and will doubtlessly be gathering more once the snow finally melts and the ground firms up. I once saw my partner fall through the bottom floor of the old house so I'm not likely to venture in for any indoor shots!

    1. It really does feel like a fleeting glimpse of magic at that time. I can tell from your comment that you've experienced the same feeling of wonderment.

  10. Isn't that just beautiful!! We are savouring any bits of sun we get from now on....heading into Autumn and it is getting quite chilly. Best find my Mulled Wine recipes...

  11. How charming! I think it's a wonderful view and I love that time of day: the "golden hour." It's funny but so typical — I crave snow and rain because it's mostly quite hot and sunny here. And where you live, you crave the sunshine and warmth...

    1. After 5 and a half months of snow and cold weather, I think you'd be pretty fed up with it, too! I do think that I'd tire of ongoing hot, dry weather, though...I like a temperate climate. Is that too much to ask? In this era of global warming...or the new ice age...or whatever ecological climactic disaster is brewing, I suppose it is too much to hope for. We'll just have to live vicariously through each other's weathered photos.

  12. Yes, there are a very few moments when the light feels to be unique. Thank you for this joy for the sense of sight. Please have you all a good new week ahead.

    1. Very happy to have been able to share this moment for you. With so much constant sunshine where you live, you might not get these dark skies to accentuate the rays. I wish you a light-filled week of exciting photo ops!

  13. That's what i say.. If I see an inkling of sun and it feels warm I feel like darting outside.. it may be gone in 5 minutes.
    Beautiful compositions, by the way!!

    1. Yup...that's the ticket--get it before it's gone! Sunshine has not come softly or often this winter so best to grab it when the grabbing's good.

  14. it is great luck to have a camera at hand when these light constellations happen (sometimes combined with a rainbow). you captured it so beautifully, and the snow is the icing on the cake!

    1. Not my favourite sort of icing, usually, but in this case it did add an interesting element, you're right. Nice surprise to see you in this part of my blogworld!

  15. Oh heck, I got all the way over here, to the edge of the property, after hours of travel, airports, taxis, sleigh dogs, snow shoes, and then when I got here, I realized I forgot to bring the prepared-in-advance sheet with the comments to tick off as appropriate... well, maybe you can choose :

    - lovely photos with lots of heart and soul

    - sublime moments of light and light energy that only you know how to capture

    - sweet colors and compositions, but depressing visions of snow now that supposedly it is springtime in the northern hemisphere

    - joyful celebration of nature and human residence regardless of the snow...

    And so on...

PS... of course I am partial to a two way street connection, as it always has been... now, back to the drawing board.

    1. LSHIS (laughed so hard I snorted!)...you had me at sleigh dogs and it just snow-balled from there. Glad to see you looked both ways while crossing the street.
