Dog Day Afternoon

At the Halifax Jazz Festival, in the free tent, it wasn't just the music that was attention-grabbing.  The onlookers were a show in themselves.  I was particularly enchanted with this young woman and her dog.

The dog's attention was elsewhere, probably wishing he could get out of the loud noise and home for a nice quiet nap.

The jazz band had a variety of tempos and moods,
some taking us back to the groovy sixties,

while other tunes were a little more mellow and nostalgic for quieter, gentler, sepia-toned (?) times.

Our furry friend quietly and discretely expressed his opinion on some of the numbers
(see that little pink tongue sticking out and the expression that clearly shows he is not impressed?
"Bleh," he says.)

Now he's obviously looking for a way out, while even his girl is pondering whether to stay or go.

Or maybe something else entirely is going on in the girl's mind.  Perhaps a melody has reminded her of her family, living far away while she carves out her own path on the other side of the country, or the ocean, or the world.  Dreaming of home that is no longer "home" and wondering what she's doing all alone in the middle of a beautiful summer day.  "Thank god for my dog," she thinks.

Though it's equally possible that she's pondering what  to buy at Pete's Frootique on her way home  to her fabulous apartment where she's hosting a supper party for her very good friends tonight.

( I prefer blog posts with happy endings, don't you?)

    1. Jann,
A virtuoso! Wowzers. I'll have to make sure that's inscribed on my tombstone. But seriously, I'm tickled fuchsia that you appreciate what I did with the original photos in Photoshop because it took me hours. Maybe not so much a virtuoso as obsessive?

I used to think everyone saw the world in the same way I do, but I'm starting to think otherwise. I'm happy that my "visions" make your heart glad.

  4. I love the way the poor old dog is sitting there looking soooo bored. I think the girl is happy, sitting there. She just looks happy to me. :)

    1. Jenny,
I felt sorry for the pooch; aside from being bored his ears must have been hurting because the music was very loud. And I think you're right about the girl. She looked like she was really enjoying the moment. I was just trying to create a little "mood music" to go with the effects I'd conjured up in Photoshop with the barely discernible post card message in the background.

  7. A dog day afternoon then... my goodness, shorts don't get much shorter than that !

    1. Owen,
Well for once I am going to have to "accuse" you of being a typical male! I mean, the woman slaves for hours with her hot burn and dodge tools over a steaming cauldron of Photoshop, cooking up all sorts of what she hopes are exotic and pleasing delights, and the guy walks in and all he can notice is the model's short shorts. Don't tell la Grenouille indeed!

    1. Saj,
"Trust" our brO? I'm not so sure anymore. I saw him flea-ing the scene with a hangdog expression on his face. I decided not to dog his tracks to find out what sort of new tricks he might be learning out there, but I'm sure he wasn't about to roll over and play dead.

I guess you won't be needing a doggy bag for that jug 'o sauvignon, the way you're lapping it up along with the jazz.

    1. Pat,
It was fun to try different effects and moods on the same photo, as well as the variants. The versions often happen quite by accident, which is exciting. Now if I could only remember how I did it and be able to apply the technique at will!

  14. Louciao, you've successfully managed to give us a glimpse not only of the young woman and her furry friends, but also of what may have been going through her mind at the time! How very intuitive, my friend! Methinks this may have been exactly what she was thinking! :)

One never knows what goes on in the mind of another, really. I sometimes think that if we could "step into" another's brain and see the world through their eyes/thought filter, it would feel like madness!

So glad you like my humble offerings. I don't know what people are thinking, bringing dogs and babies into venues with very loud sound systems blasting out music. It can't be good for their tender eardrums.
