Food for Thought

While I was in Montreal recently, I enjoyed some very tasty meals.  This was not one of them.

The chicken was a bit rubbery.

  1. Coq au caoutchouc, a favourite dish; often found on the menu with poisson d'avril.

  2. OH my, what a long neck that chicken has! Poor thing looks mortified to be so exposed!

  3. :) Trussed up like a Christmas goose. It's making me think twice about ever eating chicken again!!

  4. I think the rubber chicken is a left-over from that old TV show, Magnum PI. Always wondered where it wound up.

  5. Funny you! I see that chicken was Montréal-bound also. ;)

DCW's comment cracked me up too.

Also popular in Acadie with a side of tétines de souris and a dessert of pets de soeurs,n'est-ce pas?

  7. Audrey,
The restaurant specialized in breakfasts so I guess the chicken was stretched to the limit producing enough eggs for the omelettes, poached- fried-, and fritatted- dishes, to say nothing of the Benedictines.

  8. jann,
I'm sure the Sicilians have a way of cooking the foulest of fowl that could make even a rubber duck taste succulent and tasty.

  9. Shirl,
What arcane knowledge you possess! Did Magnum PI also happen to have a whooppee cushion?

  10. Hilary,
You may notice that DCW's comments, much like this trussed up chicken, seldom lay an egg. And you, I notice, are never left with egg on your face or chicken out from hatching a punny remark.

  12. Leovi,
Surreal, yes. It was certainly a strange sight to behold as I ate my omelette.

  13. Am so slow getting here... was waylaid by a flock of a thousand rubber chickens :

One of Al's lovely little unknown gems...

I wonder what happened to this one though, strung up and so red in the face. Do you suppose he was trying to occupy Wall Street and got bludgeoned or pepper sprayed ? I like a little pepper on my chicken... This chicken does look rather indignant about being treated this way...

  14. Owen,
If there was a prize for finding The Most Fitting Song to go with this picture, you would have won it! What sort of prize would it be? Well, a rubber chicken, of course. Sneak it into a casserole pot and surprise your wife!

Now if you could only find that old whoopee cushion of yours.

  15. I'm afraid it has gone to that place where all old whoopee cushions disappear to, never to be seen again... (there must be a whopping great mountain of the damn things somewhere)

  16. Owen,
I think it would take a whoopeeing crane to move that mountain of disused whoopee cushions.

Hubble bubble, toil and trouble...fowl is frier and frier is fowl. Supper's on!
