Playing With My Food

Between napping in friends' beds (see previous post) and participating in a 7 course chef-catered dinner party at another friends' place (more to come on that later), I haven't had much time for blogging.

I suggest you catch up on your sleep as well and be sure to have a good serving of veggies and...er...flowers (why not!).  You'll be needing your energy to keep up on the last leg of our ongoing exploration in Finn Slough--coming soon.

  4. Can't find my golden fork. Hard tines come again no more.

  5. Audrey,
When it comes to friends it's definitely quality over quantity.

  10. Seven courses? I will certainly eat reasonably in anticipation of this gourmet experience to come.

    Have a great week.

  11. Catherine,
Just a little taste of the high life. But it was a lip-smacker (delicately dabbed by my linen napkin, of course).

  12. Genie,
Rest assured, the portions are manageable with plenty of space in between each course for digestion. Although wearing a loose-fitting garment might be a good idea.

  13. delicious and beautiful and healthy, too - perfect combination :).

  14. I dunno, that carrot looks a bit smug if you ask me...

  15. Oh dear, I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date... but figs or dried apricots will do as well as dates, or crunch carrots barely seared, yes, will do as well. So, up to no good again I see ! No wonder it's been so quiet of late, you've had your mouth full. Well, do pipe up once you have swallowed... Now what I want to know is : what were you washing all that down with ??? My crystal ball shows tall wine glasses... but my crystal ball has been known to be wrong in the past, so maybe it was just sparkling water ? Well, whatever, keep on sparkling...

  16. Oh, and now you have me wondering... did my header photo change ? Maybe I should take up fencing...

  17. sleep, veggies, flowers - mmm (not necessarily in that order, but order doesn't really count here, i want all of them)

  18. m,
So true--it was the perfect combination, including the flower.

  19. Saj,
Yes, it might have been a bit smug but as my great-grandmother used to say about food, "It all goes down the same hole." And I'll leave the conclusion to you to figure out.

  20. BrOwen,
Taught not to speak with my mouth full, indeed. Don't want barely masticated food bits and spittle spattered all over my comment box or landing on my readers' glasses.

Sauterne for the first half of the dinner; Shiraz for the second. In tall wine glasses, as you envisioned so your ESP is ESPecially good this time round.

Fencing? Just keep fencing with your blog ami/es within the boundaries of the white duelling boxes in friendly matches of repartée, witty stabs of irony, daring lunges of reason, jesting jabs of humour, and generally being en garde. Oh...wait...you didn't mean that kind of fencing.
    Never mind.

  21. Roxana,
Sleep, veggies, flowers...it does sound like a recipe for a lovely day at a health spa. Now we just need to find a good masseur.

  22. That looks scrumptious. And to think that I've been preparing boring old cauliflower. From now on, I'm going with that stylish redflower! ;)

  23. Hilary,
I will have to post a photo of the centrepiece the hostess created for the table--it involved a whole cauliflower. So, eat your flowers and decorate with your veggies!

  25. Leovi,
Oh, thank you. I am flattered to receive such praise from a master of texture, colour and light such as yourself!

  26. Nearly sprayed out my own mouthful of masticated apricot on reading your reply, but choked it back barely, while guffawing and galumphing with glee... oui, the repartee shall remain contained to the canvas floor and within the ropes of this white domain which maintains that winter's snows shall soon again be singing their chilly refrains of falling flakes and drifting drifts, if you catch my drift...

And sauterne ??? Hope you had some foie gras or somesuch to wash down with it... Personally I prefer such sweet flights of fancy with a chocolate mousse after dinner... but that's just me...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Owen,
My, how I've missed you! It's so good to hear the echoes of your galumphing ways ringing around my comment box again.

The sauterne was at the request of the chef, so he must have had his reasons. It went well with appetizer of gazpacho with cucumber, followed by a tease of smoked salmon + smoked mackerel with a dollop of freshly whipped mayonnaise, chased along by a delightful chunka duck à l'orange accompanied with a...hmmm...I do believe it was a cooked radish. Will such fare appease your Frenchified disdain and ease the scoff of pas de foie gras (I believe that's a ballet term, pas de foie gras)? Chef Claude did apologise for lack of caviar but the budget was not unlimited.

I caught your drift all right, but I'd rather drift away into warmer thoughts than those of the inevitable, silent white noise that's not all that far off.

I think you've got a bit of apricot stuck in your hair, BrO--but it's hard to tell.

  29. Miss you too... sometimes life simply conspires against blogging...

But after listening to your recommendation, and then thinking of this, and hearing it through, I feel better already...

(some said he was god...)(and there sure are some wicked changes of key in that one, evil, playing in one key was not enough, he had to go around the whole circle of keys here)

Now, I have to go wash my hair, before scuttling off to bed...

  30. BrOwen,
Wow. Thanks for the link. Cool way to start the morning, but it was a bit too rock'n'roll for my first cup of coffee so I switched to the Oslo acoustic version
    http://youtu.be/-RtG6uHIcXg
which eased me sweetly in to the day. And then tonight here, I tuned into to the full rock out version you suggested: aMAzing, yeah.
But as a little bedtime soother I also dipped into the HD unplugged version
    http://youtu.be/U9GhL7LagNE
But then had to revisit the Oslo concert, which for some reason is my favourite version, in spite of the video quality.
I foresee lots of other tunes around those places to dip into
    And man, it's all good.
    Thanks.
    :-)
