Walk This Way

As promised in my last post from the gates of Finn Slough (or the Gates of Eden as certain visitors prefer to call them), the tour is about to commence.  Here comes our greeter now...

Obviously a Dylan fan from way back, "Come in", she purred, "I'll give ya shelter from the storm."
Or maybe she was muttering, "Something is happening here, and you don't know what it is..."

Well, something was happening all right, as my eyes quivered and shimmered from overbright focus.  Was this the hour that my ship comes in...

or a hazy memory from a distant, long abandonned past on Desolation Row?

All signs seemed to indicate that I was heading the wrong way. At least there was no blood on the tracks.
Only aged and worn, blonde on blonde wooden planks.

House of blues ahead, or is it the House of the Rising Sun. If we pause to make enquiries, might we find ourselves knock-knock-knocking on Heaven's door?

We'll just have to stop (in the name of love) here for the moment, and wait for the next leg of the tour-- though I don't know when I'll be comin' back again, it depends on how I'm a-feelin'.  But don't worry, we'll meet again some day, on the avenue.

  1. All I really want to do, is tell you how fine these photos and photo treatments are. But it ain't me, babe.. to just let a theme pass as if it's just blowin' in the wind. If not for you, it would have been a simple comment, full of praise and admiration. But I ain't goin' nowhere just yet because all I really want to do is have some fun with this. It's all your fault but don't think twice, it's alright. ;)

    Apologies to Mr. Zimmerman.

  2. Hilary,
I see you’re wearing your brand new leopard skin pillbox hat! How does it feel? You look just like a woman, that’s for sure, especially in those boots of Spanish leather. Watch your step on the boardwalkthough; go lightly from the edge, babe, leave at your own chosen speed. But know this, if anyone wants to complain about your borrowing some sugar from Mr. Zimmerman, it ain’t me, babe!
    :-D

Your inspired comment prompted me to revise the text of this post to include more Zimmerman zingers!

  4. Take this badge off of me, there's no way you can be policed any more, yep, you seem to have gone wild with zinging zimmer zingers... well, whatever, you seem to have taken to heart, and made it now, the moment when you paint your masterpiece, oh, just a simple twist of fate led us here, going down the back roads heading south... So, will you be selling any postcards, of these beautiful scenes from where lady and I looked out tonight from desolation row ? Or coming back for more chocolates, where the circus is in town ??? Hopefully your mother won't send back all your invitations... ah, but that would be just like a woman... Anyway, that boardwalk looks like an amazing place, just don't get lost in there, with no direction home...

Wow, this could go on and on and on, Mr Dylan sure is a gold mine of eminently quotable lines, poetry, yes, go to him now, you got nothing to lose !

PS and funny, I had just put on Shelter From the Storm on YouTube at the exact moment I read your lines above here containing that title... how's that for synchronicity...

  5. That cat cracked me up - a cool cat I suppose. (OK I know cool cats are the wrong period) These are lovely pictures and what a strange and evocative place!

  6. LOL. I loved the Zimmerman Zingers too... & the stop sign looking so lost, and the wonderful desaturated boat & boards.

  8. What an adventure ! Sound must have been nice walking upon this wood. Thank you very much for this rather surreal journey. Please have a good Wednesday you all.

  9. Owen,
Thank goodness it wasn't Juarez or Easter time, too! But be careful if you follow me down--better light yourself a candle-- because they've got some crazy women there and they'll really make a mess outa you.

OK. Enough already. I was almost afraid to saddle up and ride out with this scant load of Dylan quotes when I knew I would inevitably be going toe to toad with the QuOte Meister. But then Hilary rode into town and challenged me with a duel before I'd even made it to the outskirts of the blog so I knew the stakes were set, the die were tossed, and there was no turning back.

Isn't that odd about you putting on the appropriate mood music before checking which way the wind was blowing (you don't need a weather man to know) on my blog. I think it might be a variation of "I'll let you be in my dream if you'll let me be in yours."
As long as we each maintain a sense of the direction home the answer will always be blowing in the window.

  10. Jenny,
Oh sure, a cool cat is quite appropriate...channeling the Beat poets and sucking on catnip reefers. I can just see it! Glad you dig the atmosphere.

  11. Driftwood,
Is it a cake walk, then?

  12. jann,
Zimmerman Zinger-- a new flavour of herbal tea that's good for nasal congestion.
    :-D Glad you like it.

  14. Robert,
You are so right, it was rather surreal to walk into this strange land. Thanks for joining in the tour.

  15. Yeah, and now look, you left a comment in Nice just now at 6:01, and me in the same place at 6:02... how's that for synchronicity ??? Or is it just coincidence ? Oh, just take what you have gathered from coincidence... oh me oh my, this could go on and on and on, as all your seasick sailors they are rowing home...
    :-)

Glad to hear you escaped the wrath of Irene, but now already Katia is on the way... what was that about seven breezes blowing ? Like the ocean's pounding roar ?
    :-)

    (sorry)

  16. BrO,
Katia? Here comes the story of the hurricane...comin' to the North Country fair, where the winds hit heavy on the borderline. Keeping a lookout all along the watchtower, for the time will come up when the winds will stop and the breeze will cease to be breathin'
like the stillness in the wind
    'fore the hurricane begins.

    (this has got to stop!)
    :-)

  17. as I take this walk I feel the questions popping up like popcorn in my head - about the boat marooned on the side, the planks of wood stacked, the stop sign hidden behind the bush, and yeah, the cat?!? great walk, thanks!

  18. mauela,
I wish I could promise that all will be revealed, but I won't make promises that I can't keep. But maybe a few revelations will be forthcoming with future installations. I'm happy that you enjoyed the walk and got to exercise your enquiring mind.

  19. OK, I surrender... honestly

PS WV is "futher", as in, "this ain't a'goin' no futher, honest to gudness, Maggie..." (that's Maggie, as in, I ain't a'gonna work on Maggie's farm no more) !

    :-)

"Sorry, couldn't resist", he mumbled, skulking off into the underbrush . . .

  20. brO,
    You made me snicker!

Hurry up and take your turn over at Saj's because I'm next in line!

  21. Snicker-snack ?!?

    :-)

  22. BrOwen,
I thought I heard you come whiffling through the tulgey wood,
galumphing in! No snacks, just snickers.

  23. you are so clever and witty. i think Frieda Kahlo has dibs on that blue house.

  24. sukipoet,
    My turn to smile!
    :-)
Frieda Kahlo might have appreciated that gorgeous cobalt blue, but I doubt that she could have tolerated the damp. But then again, her very presence would have warmed the place immeasurably.
