How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck

if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Heigh-ho, sleigh-ho, it's off for wood he goes...

A little Woodsman Yoga to keep the limbs limber (or should that be lumber?)...

Return through the neatly carved snow corridor...

Pause to catch one's breath and admire a little snow art

Back the load in

And see how it all stacks up!

Obviously, this is one woodchuck who not only could but would chuck wood.

  3. Robert,
What? Not up to a little wood chopping and hauling? Your life in Athens is making you soft. (you know I'm kidding, I hope!) Happy weekend to you and yours.

  6. I would chuckle at the thought of you and P together behind the woodshed if I were not such a serious person ~

  7. A rare sighting, indeed, of a red headed woodchucker with his ingenious snowshoe wings.

  10. Manuela,
You'd smile even more if you'd have seen me mincing along behind him in my Birkenstock sandals and wool socks! Pierre used to be on television, so he's used to being filmed. I'm just lucky he signed a release to allow me to post the pictures! (just kidding)

Thanks for the link to the "spooky" places--I found them all really beautiful.

  11. Driftwood,
You really must work on your sense of humour. It's such a shortcoming!

  12. Shirl,
I see where I get my sense of humour and wit!

Red-headed woodchuck, indeed. Cool that you noticed the "wings." It wasn't really intentional, but I do like the effect. That Pierre's a rare bird, all right!

  13. jann,
Don't applaud--just throw peanuts! (I'll let him know his woodchucking efforts are appreciated as far away as Sicily! He'll be chuffed.)

  14. Catherine,
You got that right! It IS a hell of a lot of snow. I can't tell you how much good it does me to have that feeling reinforced (ie. it's not just me who thinks so).

  15. He looks like a very friendly woodchuck, but I think you are very brave or very daring to let wild animals like that into your house. And although I'm no expert on woodchuck behavior, I'm surprised to see him rearing up on his hind legs like that, perhaps you trained him over time by holding up food in the air ??? Fascinating...

Now, another question one could also ask is : How many rats could a raccoon track if a raccoon could track rats ? Well, it seemed pertinent, I mean, they're all considered varmints, raccoons, rats, woodchucks, and the like...

And just imagine the tricks you could get him to do if you held up some cheese in the air ! Anyway, if he carries plenty of wood, he must be the sort of woodchuck you'd want to keep around for a while... (as long as he doesn't eat too much)

PS WV is "logograt"... must be another variety of varmint !

  16. BrOwen,
You do ask some very pertinent (not to say impertinent) questions. But what on earth makes you think I let the woodchuck in the house?!

I have baked a Chocolate Amaretto Cheesecake tonight (because it's someone's birthday) so I might try teaching the woodchuck some new tricks by waving a slice of that in front of his furry face. C is here as well, to aid in the celebration of said birthday. The woodchuck is, in fact, very fond of cheese, so I imagine a cheesecake will inspire him to perform wonderous woodstacking feats. Both the woodchuck and c's birthdays are in September so it is very fortunate indeed that someone else in the little family has a deep winter birthday to allow the woodchuck to chuck wood and keep the home fires burning, and to encourage c to fly home to aid and abet in woodchucking and cheesecake eating. The woodchuck chucks wood, while the cat stalks the rats, and the cheesecake stands alone, cooling, in anticipation of being topped with whipped cream as white as the snow (or mashed potatoes) and gustily consumed over the next two days.

  17. Chocolate Amaretto Cheesecake ???

Did I hear you right ???

I'm on the way ! There better be some left !!!

And whose birthday could it possible be, if it's neither the woodchuck's nor the c's... who else does that leave in the house ? Ah, I know ... the Queen's ! Well, to whomever... A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY !

Here, do you need a napkin ? There's whipped cream on the tip of your nose !
    :-)

  18. Happy birthday, big sis. Am so gald you have a pet woodchuckerer, must make life so much easier. The height of that snow would be prohibitive for anyone shorter in stature, n'est pa?

  19. BrOwen,
Your powers of deduction are mighty but misguided. Nevertheless, you will be rewarded with a large piece of chocolate amaretto cheesecake because I am feeling as magnanimous as a queen today, in spite of the current blizzard.

  20. Sister Saj,
You're just in time for cheesecake! You're right about the woodchuckerer, he does come in handy in this part of the world. I have also taught him other useful tricks and am thinking of renting him out. Would you like red, white, bourbon, brandy or Amaretto with your cake? I'm afraid we're all out of bubbly.

  21. Just a splash of each, I'm not greedy!

  22. Your woodchucker is adorable! Perhaps a calendar for the coming year, featuring said Chuck in 11 other Albert County manly poses.
I must say, your scenes are very exotic, so different from my western world. And chocolate amaretto cheesecake and brandy, that's hot - you'll be melting those snow drifts with the glow you get on. Glow baby glow!

  23. That's a lot of snow in them there fields. Impressed you made it outside.

  24. Saj,
Of course you'd like some of each! What was I thinking?! Blame it on my advanced age.

  25. carmenooch,
To add to my "hotness" I got a pair of Chuck Taylor All Star Converse "tennis" shoes from C! They should look good with the snowshoes, don't you think? Hmmm, a calendar of the woodchuck doing manly things, Albert County style? Have you forgotten his African-style outfits?

  26. Mme. DeFarge,
I think you're no more impressed than myself that I made it outside! The things one suffers for the sake of one's blog.

  27. Well after BrOwen has been there's no point in hoping for a slice of that Chocolate Amaretto Cheesecake is there?

Well I'll just go out and frolic in the snow - I'm absolutely amazed at the pile of it!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nathalie,
You're right--no more cheesecake. For a little toad, it's amazing the reach and appetite that BrOwen is possessed of!

Still PLENTY of snow to frolic in, though, and more falling today. Would you mind if I just watch you from the window? There's no more cheesecake, but we still have Amaretto on hand. Come and join me for a glass when you get too cold...in about 5 minutes time.
    :-)
