Granville Island

Today I went to Granville Island and saw a few intriguing sights while there.
The web guide to the place describes it as:

Guaranteed to make the folks back home really jealous.

Imagine an island in the middle of a city. ... A living, breathing urban oasis filled with fine waterfront restaurants, theatres, galleries, studios, unique shops, cafes and the most spectacular fresh food market you’ve ever seen.

I noticed a happy looking truck parked in the cement company's lot, just up the street from the art college.  I wonder if one of the art school grads was hired by the cement company to jazz up the trucks.  How many of you can spot the Canadian flag in this photo?  No, it is not on the cement mixer. (Hint: look way up)

There seemed to be a lot of construction going on, wires getting crossed, reconstruction, deconstruction, and work in progress.

Or maybe all the wires and antennae were being put in place to help Vancouver's best psychics recieve their messages a little more clearly.

This is the view I had from my table while enjoying lunch (a warm beet salad with goat cheese and walnuts, washed down with a dry cider)...

in the delightful company of an old friend of mine...

Good times!  I hope, my friends, that you are finding small pleasures to lift your spirits as well.

Wish you were here.

  1. Did you contact the psychics' sidekick for a medium priced reading?

  2. Your lunch view is jealousy-inducing, to be sure, but I'm most jealous of the beet salad with warm goat cheese!

  3. A lot of cement heads on the roads these days, but this one takes the cake.

  4. Haha, I raced ahead and you two didn't even see me!!

Love the views and that lunch sounds divine. It is really getting into cider weather here too, I'll save you some?

  5. Well I'll be, how on earth did the Saj get here before us... she certainly is quick... will have to keep an eye on her, or she will be getting into all kinds of mischief, spilling her cider and all...

So was that crazy construction contraption, deconstruction, reconstruction, a working piece of art with all sorts of spherical objects rolling around in it, keeping passers by mesmerized for hours on end ? Or something else entirely ???

And what did the psychic tell you ???

  6. DCW,
Indeed, I got my two sense worth.

  7. jann,
I was torn between ordering that and a BC salmon burger but when the beet salad arrived I knew I'd made the right decision. How could one ever go wrong with goat cheese?

  8. Shirl,
I believe she feels a bit more light-headed than the cement heads you refer to in that she's probably made from styrofoam. I think it's the equivalent of being an air head.

  9. Saj,
Are you really able to save me a cider or should I bring my own? I'll bring my own anyway, just in case, and to share, of course. You're a regular Speedy Gonzalez when you put your mind to it. Lovely to find you here sipping away.

  10. BrOwen,
The contraption was, in fact, something else entirely, with no moving parts, though there was another one with gears and such which I think was moving but now I can't quite remember because I saw so many other exciting sights that day.

To learn what the medium told me, refer to my reply to DCW above.

And as for that little Sagittarian sister of ours, we'd best be keeping a good eye on her! I think she's practicing her speeding skills so she can get to the bottle-shaped prezzies under the Xmas tree before we can!

  15. Roxana,
I hope your salad turned out be as delicious as the one I experienced. It had a delicate overlay of salad greens on top of the beets--red and yellow beets, not too many. And doesn't my old friend look great for her age? She's always had a great sense of humour, which helps keep one young, I think.

  16. Robert,
Your English punning is delightful and delectable!

  17. Madame DeFarge,
You must revisit and bring M.DeFarge for a wander--the place has only improved with age; as have we all, I daresay.

  18. BrOwen,
Thanks for that! This is the version that I remember best:
