Obvious by Her Absence

I'm hoping that the old maxim "absence makes the heart grow fonder" holds true with blogging.  Somehow or other, I wandered away from my blogs this summer, busy gathering photographs but just filing them away rather than "processing" them to share. Lots to look forward to this winter, I guess.

Here's a shot of the Vancouver skyline as seen from the seabus that links downtown with North  Vancouver.

In a few days I'll be sailing back to the Maritimes (flying, actually), looking back fondly on a wonderful summer spent in Lotus Land.  See you soon!

  1. Let us know when you get here. K and I would love to bring over some elixir and swap summer tales.

    1. Arriving late Sept.4. Will send up smoke signals when settled in so that you and K can come on down and feed the flames with that elixir!

    1. Thanks, Catherine. Not quite back yet...still savouring a last few days here. Also still have to figure out how to cram all the stuff I've accumulated in the past 2 months into the travel bags I arrived with.

    1. Thank you for that most supportive vote of support, Gwen! It goes a long way towards explaining just what happened here...or rather, didn't happen.

  4. There you are! :) Have missed you! Why is Vancouver called Lotus Land? I have heard others use this term as well. As you can tell I haven't been there, or I would know... :)

    1. Yes, here I am. Why is Vancouver called Lotus Land? Climate (compared to the rest of Canada), old hippies in abundance, the lifestyle, the gorgeous environment of mountains/sea/trees and urban convenience, the proliferation of pot-smokers, the yoga/hiking/biking/boarding/skiing enthusiasts; a relatively laid back attitude. Oh yes, and then there are those hallucinatory mushrooms that grow on people's front lawns at certain times of the year. Wikipedia says:
Lotusland - coined by Vancouver Sun writer Allan Fotheringham, Lotusland refers to Homer's Odyssey, in which the hero, Odysseus, visits a land whose inhabitants are befuddled by a narcotic lotus (the "Land of the Lotus-Eaters"). It sometimes is used to describe all of British Columbia.

Someone once said that everyone on the streets of Vancouver dresses as though they were either just going to or coming from a yoga class. Suits me!

    3. Well worth a trip...but especially to me as it still feels like "home."

  5. How about a comparison between a Louciao busy hunting & gathering high amounts of photographs and a pollinator who was busy hunting & gathering food for their highly built nests: both are getting ready for feeding themselves and others for a nice & relaxing winter. Have a nice sky sailing to the other coast!

    1. Speaking of yarns, got obsessed with knitting ruffly scarves while here, also bought a skein of llama wool to knit a toque, and some brightly coloured Noro yarns to go crazy with when I get back to the maritimes. But yes, am looking forward to reconnecting through pix and stories with my dear friends here in blogland--if not in person. Still have some Victoria gin on hand in the Hills if you need more incentive to come visit before the leaves fall and the snow falls!

  9. Hi Lynne,
Wave when you fly over, I'm just south of Ottawa. Watch for the old stone building with the blue Toyota beside it.

  10. Lovely photo!! Have been rather absent myself in Blogland...am now out and about roaming, looking for my enthusiasm - did I leave it in that bottle of gin you're hiding in the back of your knitting cupboard??

    1. How did you know about that bottle of gin???!!! Actually, I can't quite remember just where I stashed the darn thing before I left for Vancouver. Will soon be engaged in a mad ransacking of the house in search of that sloe sustenance. At least it will give me something to blog about.
