It starts here, at Canada Place, harobourside in Vancouver.
There is definitely a feeling of festivity and celebration
in the air.
I may be gullible, but this bird just tugs at my heart strings
(as long as he leaves my French fries alone!).
(as long as he leaves my French fries alone!).
Gradually, Canada Place is gathered into the sheltering skyline of highrises...
as clouds rush in for dramatic effect.
Look quickly now, we're about to have the unusual experience of going under the Lions Gate Bridge!
Have you guessed yet?
No, I did not sail off the edge of the world!
But wouldn't that be a great excuse for neglecting to blog.
Good to have you back! :) Was it by any chance a cruise to Alaska? ;) We left Vancouver on an Alaskan Cruise back in 1987 and have a similar picture going under the Lions Gate Bridge... Small World. Lovely photos! So did you get your mother all moved?
ReplyDeleteMystic,
DeleteI cannot divulge the answer just yet but let's just say you're HOT. Oh, I didn't mean anything untoward or overly personal by that. Yes, we got my mum all moved and comfortably ensconced in her lovely new condo. A few hiccups along the way, but nothing insurmountable. And what better way to celebrate a move than by...going away! Which is what we did as soon as the furniture was installed, the beds made, and the pictures hung.
Ha-Ha-Ha :)
DeleteWell, it certainly looks watery and wonderful, whatever you were doing!!! And your title "Cruisin'...." does seem to indicate some kind of cruise. So where do boats from Vancouver cruise to??? I like the above guess--to Alaska??? Did you wave to Sarah Palin?
ReplyDeletejann,
DeleteSo watery and quite wonderful and a complete surprise to find myself there (thanks to a spur of the moment decision by my sister). All will be revealed in a future post, but I will say that cruises from Vancouver could also be expected to go to Hawaii or points south. But I did happen to see a life-sized cardboard cut-out of Sarah Palin in one of our ports of call.
Looks like you have been sailing somewhere beautiful.....welcome back from your cruise...love that skyline shot of Vancouver
ReplyDeleteCatherine,
DeleteThe cruise was 7 days, so I'm rather late getting back in to my blogging port, but there were many detours along the route back home. It was such a treat to get that shot of Vancouver, not one that I've ever experienced quite like that before.
Looks wonderful but what was the destnation? I remember when ferries to the Island would leave from the harbour but that was long ago before the government became involved.
ReplyDeleteDCW,
DeleteI can't remember the days of heading on the ferry from downtown Vancouver to downtown Victoria, except when the big hoverboat was operating. That was no fun at all because it was noisy and there was no deck to go up on to. As for our destination this trip, if I say "Johnny Horton" (not to be confused with Horton Heard a Who) to you, does it ring any sleigh bells?
I understand your sentiments about the gull. I delighted at watching the Clark's Nutcrackers on the deck at Lake Louise wage guerilla warfare with the waiters, trying to poach tasty morsels from the plates between buffet and diners. As I was havingonly liquid refreshment, I had no emotional investment in the success of the mission.
ReplyDeleteDCw,
DeleteLiquid refreshment only on the deck at Lake Louise?!! Another Rocky Mountain high moment.
I hope the diners who were enjoying French fries double-checked what they thought to be tartar sauce on their plates.
Sure seems like these pix were taken from high above the water level, I think the gull picked you up and took you for a ride... now that would be crusin' for sure...
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see "la suite" of this, to see just how far and how high (and how far north ?) you went...
But I'm sure if the gull took you for a ride he was just after your fries after all...
PS am hoping you and P. and C. and I don't know who all have voted by now ? (see MLS for details...)
Owen,
DeleteNothing quite like shameless self-promotion, is there. Good luck with your voting scam. I did what I could to aid and abet you and can only hope that Interpol doesn't track me down.
There will be a few ports of call and all sorts of matter of the ship-shape variety before this topic of cruisin' is exhausted. Stand by for boarding, though I hope not boring!
Gulls cruisin' for my fries, photogs after my votes...mumble mumble mumble
To reach the edge, think, and to return - what wonderful journey it must have been. Miss traveling much. Thank you for these great images. Please have a good new week ahead.
ReplyDeleteRobert,
DeleteTo reach the edge, yes...to go that far and peer into the abyss...or into new lands and possibilities never before imagined. The life of an explorer. Well, cruising was certainly a new frontier for me.
You definitely know how to show Vancouver at it's best.Brilliant photos of the skies......do you have a new camera?
ReplyDeleteRuby
Ruby,
DeleteNot a new camera, but maybe my new glasses are helping me to focus better. These pictures are pretty much a result of just pure luck, with good lighting and fantastic scenery, really.
Well that is definitely Vancouver, and Canada Place, so I am guessing you left on a cruise. Beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteGillian,
DeleteI see there can be no pulling of wool over your eyes!
Now that is a dramatic bon voyage... something exciting happening!!!
ReplyDeleteGwen,
DeleteIt was pretty exciting; all the more so because it was unexpected. I mean, I had not expected to be setting sail on a cruise when I went out to Vancouver to help my mother move into her new abode.
oh oh oh
ReplyDeletethese images are beyond lovely - how the light seems to emanate from the sky, literally pour down upon city and sea, the whole world... the hues in the last picture swept me off my feet!
i envy you :-)
Roxana,
DeleteThe light was amazing that day. Couldn't have asked for better. And I was pretty much just blindly grabbing pictures with my camera because I couldn't see properly in the viewer. So pleased with what was captured. The light made the voyage out seem even more special. Like a blessing, really. Or a kiss before leaving on a journey.
